The Umbilical Cord usually has three vessels, two arteries that carry waste from the baby back through the placenta to the mother and one vein that carries nutrients and oxygen to the baby from the mother via the placenta.
I teach my students to remember it with the smilie face, Two a's and a V. a a V About 1.5% of pregnancies result in a single artery cord. This is a cord with one artery and one vein. In most cases it won't affect the baby, though in a few there is a chance of some complications.

Hi, I'm Samantha Birch...Sam, from Under the Birch Tree. I started Under the Birch Tree for my Doula business and for my passion in design. I decided to stop doing Doula work for a while after my placenta business grew the most glorious wings and set off on a journey I never dreamt of..........or anyone else for that matter. Some were non-believers but those that really know me, knew this was finally the right fit for me. Today I get to meet amazing families from all walks of life from one end of the Gold Coast to the other with the occasional journey out yonder. I get to be a tiny part of the most incredible time in my families lives. I get to see them raw and in the moment, to feel that happiness radiate all the way out to my car and through my phone with excitement and awe that they have made it to parenthood! I have also seen heartbreak and that too is raw, I feel it to my core right alongside of happiness where I want to wrap them up and care for them with all of my being. I put a lot of my heart into each and every client and I hope that in some tiny way I was a positive light for them. I am very lucky to have the support of all of the Gold Coast Hospitals and many other Gold Coast birth professionals. I'll be adding some of them to my 'Useful Links' page soon offering Gold Coast families more options with many new places to consider while pregnant or raising a family. It is a real hoot to hear of raving reviews and referrals from colleagues and past clients....even Grandfathers!! I have so much thanks for all those that helped me get here from my family to my Migraine guy to all the past clients and colleagues of Under the Birch Tree. Bless you all x I look forward to sharing this and that with you here, I'm also happy to hit any subjects you would like me to take on, so feel free to ask and I'll do my best. |

"This was the best thing I ever did! I went from getting the start of PND, then started taking my tablets and it levelled everything out and I could enjoy the time with my son.. I will be getting them again with my next child" L
